Now normally I'm not one who spends their time using their dA journal to review movies, games, etc., but I'll be damned if I don't start it by doing WALL*E!

This movie now vies with The Incredibles for my favorite Pixar movie. It was a most excellently crafted film, melding sci-fi, romance and adventure seamlessly (as a good Pixar film should). This movie is too good to spoil in a review, so I will try not to and only tell that it is amazing and should be seen if you have enjoyed any other Pixar movie preceding this one. It is bursting with many zany and memorable characters, all of which add to the story in one way or another. Also, bring a small notepad to see how many references to various topics (sci-fi, Pixar, etc.) can be found within the movie. I guarantee the ones for 2001: A Space Odyssey will take up a couple of pages.

Aside from the powerful themes in the movie, the animation is second to none, as expected from Pixar. Every character is animated flawlessly, their movements speaking for them if they cannot. Sequence to sequence, the animation never lets up , each setting in the movie having their distinct flavor. The ones in space are my personal favorite. Although (SPOILER ALERT!) the insertion of live-action sequences within the movie can be a little surprising, I find that it is a way for Pixar to mix things up in their stylistic flow and to add some character to the film. The music used also works well in the sequences they feature in, effectively adding to and even increasing the mood in some parts. These factors combined make for a movie masterpiece.

There are some who have seen the movie and say (you know who you are) that the first half-hour of the movie is pure gold, but then the plot comes into it. The main complaint people seem to have about this is the perceived notion that the movie continually beats the audience over the head with a heavy-handed environmentalist theme, which I find to be utter bullshit. This theme, while present, is one of many others within the movie and can quickly be overwritten in the mind by any of the others. I was unaware that caring for the planet was a very bad thing. Another is the depiction of the humans in the film, which many have said is wrong and insulting. This is nothing more that simple-mindedness and is purely a metaphor for the fact that humankind could become overdependent on technology in this circumstance. Also, it is explained why they are as they are in the film. Why do you think astronauts need to exercise so much while in space?

Bottom line: this movie is Oscar gold. Yes, I know many people say this for films they believe are "teh best evar!!1!", but once you've seen WALL*E you'll be thinking along the same lines. I can see this taking at least two categories for the Oscars, trust me. And let me tell you, if your heart isn't melting at least one-third of the way into the film then sign yourself up for brain surgery since you're obviously emotionally dead inside.
